Runners and supporters will enjoy a seamless transport service on Comrades race day, thanks to a joint partnership between the CMA and the South African National Taxi Council - Durban Central (SANTACO), together with local bus service provider, Kalamazoo.

SANTACO is the mouthpiece of the country’s minibus taxi industry, having been formed in 2001. The industry reportedly hires an estimated 600-thousand workers, transporting roughly 15-million commuters per day and generating around 90-billion rand a year.

Kalamazoo is a well-established coach line based in Pietermaritzburg with nearly 150 buses for hire.

With a joint offering of 50 Quantum minibuses, 12 x 35-seater buses and 80 coaches to transport runners on Comrades race day, from early morning till late evening, the initiative is aimed at supporting the local transport network and ensuring that Comrades runners are safely transported to and from the Comrades Start and Finish venues and their hotels.

Tickets for both runners and supporters may be purchased at R90,00 (one way) or R160,00 (return). Tickets will be available at the Comrades Expo and the Pietermaritzburg Registration point at Comrades House between 6 to 8 June 2019. An added point of sale will be set up at the Woodburn Rugby Stadium on Comrades race day (9 June) for last minute ticket purchases.

CMA General Manager, Keletso Totlhanyo says, “We are pleased with this partnership with the Comrades Marathon, SANTACO and Kalamazoo. This is all in line with putting our Runners First and ensuring their safety and wellbeing on race day.”

Totlhanyo adds, “We look forward to working closely with SANTACO and Kalamazoo. It is through such meaningful engagements that we get to serve our athletes and supporters. Partnerships such as these definitely make the Comrades Marathon that much more of an inclusive event, with the buy-in of diverse stakeholders who add value to our race.”

Chairperson of SANTACO Durban Central, Siyanda Ntenga says, “We are honoured to partner with the Comrades Marathon Association in this year’s Ultimate Human Race. We look forward to serving the runners and supporters on race day and being part of this most famous road-running race in a meaningful partnership like this one.”
