“This was our Comrades of Hearts in Germany. We celebrated the beautiful Comrades Marathon and its centenary with friends who joined us for the first time, to spread a big wave of positive energy along 90km.

On our way we met people who supported us in running to achieve our big goal. Sponsors donated towards our project in South Africa, so we raised R150-thousand for BE YOUR OWN HERO in Underberg, where Clive Crawley #1 and Trish Crawley lived for a long time.

We had met Trish and Clive during a running & cycling event against HIV/AIDS and crossed paths in Underberg in 2003. Since then we have supported in different ways Clouds of hope, where we built a school at Reichenau and contributed to other projects.

With our Comrades of Hearts, we support the Future Compass which helps children to have the chance to get a positive future. Sport is one of the topics which we also contribute to for the youth of Underberg.

We feel grateful to run for the children in South Africa, Clive used to ask me, “When are you running the Comrades?”

I was a non-runner at the time. 2017 was my first and this was such a significant experience for me. I call it always – Camino in fast. This energy, this power, this love I got along the route shows me, how to run with my heart.

I’m thankful that German runners came on board to support my idea. In front Günter Bütepage and a close friend Frank Akens. Thanks to the whole team Dirk, Ben, Lisa, Anke, Christiane, Mark, Detlef, Christian. To all runners. This was an amazing day which I will never forget after this long period of lock down and social distance in Germany. Hope to be back next year. #18416”
