The Comrades Marathon Centenary Hope Challenge forms part of The Comrades Marathon Association Centenary Celebrations inspiring hope for the fight against Covid-19.

The challenge will take place on Sunday, 13 June 2021 from any time between 00:01am and 23:59pm on the actual challenge date, within your local time zone.
Subject to your local government regulationsPlease respect the current COVID-19 restrictions/regulations as set by your local government and participate within those constraints.
ROUTE & DISTANCE Anywhere! Find the course of your choice and participate on your favourite route. Whether it be on your property, a treadmill or on public roads. The following are the different challenge distance options:
Plan your run wisely! Bring sufficient nutrition, water and energy drinks with you – or plan so your course covers your nutrition and fluid needs on challenge day.

RUNNING IN GROUPS Can I run with family and friends? Yes, you can! But please respect social distancing and any other restrictions set by national or local governments/authorities due to the prevention of coronavirus spread.
Challenge Bibs
Challenge Bibs will be emailed to each entrant on completion of entry. Entrants are encouraged to print out the Challenge Bibs and attach it to their running kit on Challenge Day. Participants are encouraged to take images and videos wearing their Challenge Bibs or to participate with placards displaying their #HopeIs messages.
OFFICIAL CHALLENGE T-SHIRT
The 1st 15000 entrants who enter the 21km, 45km or 90km (South Africa/International/ROA) Challenge will each receive a free limited-edition Comrades Marathon Centenary Hope Challenge t-shirt (strictly on a 1st come 1st serve basis). Alternatively, 15000 units will also be available for purchase at R250.00 each across all the Challenge distances (strictly on a 1st come 1st serve basis). This is a limited-edition entry only item.

CHALLENGE TIMING
Your smart phone, smart watch, fitness watch or activity tracker is your personal “virtual timing chip”. Start the session and participate in your selected distance. When you reach the challenge distance you have entered stop the session and simply, link your Strava, Garmin, Polar or Suunto account to your profile. We also support session file imports for GPX, TCX and FIT formats – you will also be able to manually input running data.
RESULTS
You must upload your challenge data by 11:59pm on 13 June 2021 to qualify as a finisher. Your time will be updated to the official results service for the challenge you participate in. Please also note, that even though your watch or phone may deduct pauses you may have taken during your session, we do not. We measure from start to finish! The results will be published on the Comrades Marathon website and be fully available on the tracking App where you can subscribe to finish notifications for the runners you want to follow.

General Awards
All participants who finish their respective distance and update their results before the cut-off date/time will receive a virtual Medal as well as a physical Medal. All finishers will also receive an online finishers certificate once you have finished your challenge distance which you will be able to share with all family and friends.
CHARITIES
Participants will be able to donate to one of the CMA’s official charities on entry.
CHALLENGE PRODUCTS/MEMORABILIA
Comrades Marathon Centenary Hope Challenge limited-edition products will be available for purchase on entry only on a 1st come 1st serve basis while stocks last.
PRODUCT/MEMORABILIA DISTRIBUTION
South African entrants will have an option to either collect their items from a Mr Price Sports store closest to you. Alternatively, you will have an option on entry to pay for a courier service to deliver your items to you. International/ROA entrant’s items will be posted to you by the South African Postal Service.
