GEMS SPIRIT OF COMRADES AWARDS GALA IN THREE WEEKS
Since its inception in 1996, the Spirit of Comrades Awards has stood as a testament to the extraordinary individuals who embody the true essence of the Comrades Marathon. This year, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) will host the annual awards ceremony in the beautiful city of Durban on Friday, 18 October 2024.
Together with the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) the awards gala honours those who have demonstrated exceptional qualities of selflessness, dedication, courage, perseverance, and Ubuntu – the spirit of humanity.
The three GEMS Spirit of Comrades recipients will be awarded a one-ounce, 24 carat pure gold medallion. More than that, the award is a very notable recognition of someone who embodies the Comrades spirit and inspires others to showcase the inherent values of goodness in humanity.
The glitzy awards gala will also honour the CMA Top Journalist, CMA Top Charity Fundraiser and the recipient of the CMA Chairperson’s Award.
- Top Journalist: This award recognizes a journalist who has consistently provided outstanding coverage of the Comrades Marathon throughout the year, as verified by Newsclip Media Monitoring.
- Top Charity Fundraiser: In honour of the Amabeadibeadi Race4Charity initiative, this award is presented to the individual who has raised the most funds for a Comrades charity this year.
- Chairperson's Award: This special award honours an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Comrades Marathon and its community.

By recognizing these outstanding individuals, we honour their achievements and continue to foster the legacy of the Comrades Marathon.”
